Default Quitters and You.

A treatise into quitting =P

Understandably there might be circumstances that the person has no control over, ie ISP d/c or Err=7 or some real life situation they need to take care of, but the majority of cases I have encountered or read / heard about usually fit into these descriptions I made up over some dwarven ale .

Fear of Death.
Enchantment spell. For duration of mission - on death, quit.
A simple one, they die they quit. They seem to have this god syndrome for their character where dying is not acceptable in their characters world.

Fear of Failure.
Hex Spell. Causes target ally to quit when party loses x player or is less than full.
This is a cascade of quitting due to the belief that certain missions cannot be finished without X character or a full party. They might be a real good party mate but as soon as the party becomes 7/8 they vanish. This has an unfortunate side effect of causing other members to catch this disease too.

Suicidal Buffoon.
Stance. For duration of mission act like a strategical nightmare, when things look bad throw a tantrum and quit.
Usually a suicidal mob training egotistical character who has "done this a 1000 times" runs off at inoportune moments, thinks the rest of his/her team are newbs (or noobs or n00bs depending on how elite, l33t or 1337 they feel at the time) and then die because they fail to realise that a team based game isnt about 1 person, they yell at you then quit.

Griefer.
Preparation. For duration of mission you destroy the party, when your satiated you quit.
They train mobs or do awful stuff detrimental to the party, insult you then quit. They might even hold you to ransom.

Impatient.
Trap. For x seconds (where x is time till you have to leave) you try to rush and hurry, when x seconds is up, Impatient trap goes off and you quit.
Since they didn't adequately allocate time to do the mission, they are constantly rushing and telling the team to "HURRY UP!", when the team cant... they guess yep quit.

"This Way!".
Shout. Some allies head your call and listen to you, the others do not.
The learned one, usually has a good idea about the mission and great idea's about teamwork and strategy. Usually a leader or so. But then there is the rest of the team... a right bunch of knuckleheads. Usually pm's the good ones, quits then heads back to town with a select few forms a new party and tries again.

Feel free to add more or pick the one which you fit into

I did quit a mission yesterday... how would classify this... someone spent the entire time drawing male organs on the tactics map. After repeated attempts to get this individual to grow up, I quit the mission, and by the time I got back to town the rest of the group was there as well.

I normally won't quit, but enough was enough.

My reason is usually:

Baby Cry {Elite} - Hex Spell

All parents in range are dazed by crying noise and immidiately urged to comfort baby, feed baby, change baby's diapers or put baby to sleep, which takes 5 ... 30 minutes.

Linked Attribute: Paternity
Energy cost: 5
Casting time: 0
Recharge time: 15 Minutes

I love it.... this Hits almost all of them. Lastnight I had the joy of running into a Suicidal Impatient "This Way!" Buffoon spamer.. It was great I just sat there and watched him die...

Ummmmm

There's one other type of quiter...

Oh shit!
This is the person who, however long into the mission, that he has to take the grossest dump in the world or has become ill. This happened to me once and I KNEW it wasn't going to be something quick. I just left the mission and felt VERY VERY bad about doing it. But I also didn't want to just ride the coattails and be tagged as a leecher for the mission.

Edit: On a side note, we had a party of 6 people during a shiverpeaks mission. 3 we warriors. All the warriors left and it was just me (necro), a healing monk, and a mesmer. We STILL beat the mission even though we had almost no firepower. It was hard, and the mesmer kept dying to make corpses for me, but we did it. BOOYAH!

I've had a couple occassions where I've needed a break to tend to the kids, folks tend to be understanding and wait. At least, so far...

Quitting without saying why is annoying.

Give the group the satisfaction of telling why you may leave abruptly before starting the mission, or just taking a few seconds to type "Something has come up, I have to leave.". Just saying "You all suck" is just arrogant.

I have a sadistic friend who works at Bell (My ISP) who has the power to cut my connection for a few seconds. Very annoying let me tell you...

Superiority Complex:
Preparation. For the next 5-15 minutes if someone corrects you then you stop healing them for 15 minutes.

:O Actually thats a much nicer version than the real thing. Some noob monk in my group had that enchantment that resses and if you cancel it the person dies, he was SUCH a whiney little kid. Whenever I corrected him or insulted him hed take it off me. After about 5 minutes of this I went and watched TV and came back the find myself 2 towns ahead.

He sure showed me....

Blind, Deaf, and Dumb:
Elite Hex. For the next 20 seconds the targets "t" key becomes broken. The target is unable to switch targets in anyway.

Blame:
Elite Enchantment. For the next 20-30 seconds if the caster dies all blame is placed upon the monk in the group even if the caster was under the effect of Suicidal Buffoon.

EDIT: This one is me .

Brilliant Spammer:
Elite Shout. For the next 30 minutes whenever someone doesn't listen to the caster of "Brilliant Spammer" the caster will spam "OMFG YOU F'IN DUNCE LISTEN" and ping the map 20 times. The Brilliant spammer is unable to leave a party because he has to prove he is right. The Brilliant Spammer is always right.

I know it's hard to tell the Brilliant Spammer from the Suicidal Buffoon but what can ya do. If you listen to this person and fail he was a Suicidal Buffoon if you succeed he wasn't.

Passing the Buck:
Sees the target calling, but as player is too important, he/she doesn't switch, and passes of a lame excuse.
"I thought it was taken care off"

Helplessness complex:
Unable to beat anything/go to the next town without a full group of players. Unable to play with henchman in any way.

Fear of Morons:

Hex Spell--If at any time during the mission you find that your entire group is full of morons, quit.

This is always on my bar, I rarely quit out, but sometimes its necessary.
